OEJJU / EJJU HISTORY
The following officially verifiable information and documentation is presented by the International Ju Jitsu Federation (IJJF)* and the European Ju Jitsu / Ju Jutsu Union (EJJU)* whose internationally recognised logos are presented on this website.
The International Ju Jitsu Federation was founded by Alfred Hasemeier and Vernon C.F.Bell in 1968 with the assistance of Hanshi Suzuki Masafumi. With the passing of Vernon C.F. Bell, the International Ju Jitsu Federation and the European Ju Jutsu / Ju Jutsu Union were then officially placed in the hands of the new President – Javier Galan Vasquez. The IJJF and the EJJU were then fully recognised as an international governing body for Ju Jitsu by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
According to the Yearbook of International Organisations – the IJJF functions as “the world parent organisation of all styles of the Japanese martial art of jujitsu, provide training of the original ancient styles of Japanese jujitsu, including self-defence without weapons, cultivate the mental values of Japan, including the Buddhist background; carry out scientific investigations of the physical and spiritual aspects of jujitsu.”
